In building this travel website there was a wide selection of travel photos to choose from, dating back to the 1950's, when the travel destinations were mostly in Europe. In 1987 began the first venture further abroad; first stop Hong Kong, followed by China, resulting in a large stock of travel photos taken and collected in a sort of online scrapbook on travel websites that have increased in numbers over the passing years. In 1993, Vietnam was added to the online scrapbook, when a friend showed me parts of his country, that he had left a few years earlier, as one of the 'Boat People'.
The story of why and how these travel websites were created almost deserves a website of its own. A friend in Shanghai to whom I had sent an email saying that I did not know what I was going to do with all the travel photos that were piling up at my home, replied, 'Put them on travel websites!'. The next email I sent to him was simply, 'How?' The reply I recieved from him was, 'Learn, and get help!'. That is what happned; the first page of the first travel website, was a labour of love fraught with sleepless nights and endless problems. When I had a problem I would telephone a friend who was a computer wizzkid, and the first thing he would say to me was, 'What have you done now?' These emergency calls became fewer in number as the months went past. The travel photos had found a place on the travel websites, hopefully to be enjoyed by the visitors, as much as the taking of the travel photos had been enjoyed by the photogapher!

The plight of the boat people became an international humanitarian crisis. The UNHCR, under the auspices of the United Nations, set up refugee camps in neighbouring countries to process the "boat people" and was awarded the 1981 Nobel Peace Prize for its work. There were untold miseries, rapes and murders on the South China Sea committed by Thai pirates who preyed on the refugees who had sold all their possessions and carried gold with them on the trips.
